Martin Schelstraete
MEANWHILE

19th of February till the 2nd of March
KunstRUIM

From 19 February to 2 March 2025, eight KunstRUIMERS will exhibit their work. While so much is happening in the world around us, there are artists who are looking for peace in form, color and meaning.

Take the work of Martin Schelstraete and Jacqueline Steinhoff. Both work narratively and realistically. Steinhoff depicts everyday in these stories. Vulnerable moments in intimate multi-colour prints: up close, often from unexpected points of view. In his paintings and graphic work, Schelstraete depicts man and himself and connects this with universal themes. He zooms out a little more, sometimes with a literary basis.

Tamara Tantico: ‘I consider the human condition to be like a fly on the wall. Like birds, my impressions land on the canvas, slightly hindered by some form of humour: may the birds be with you!’.

Büşra Köken explores themes such as human resilience, growth and safety. Her organic shapes and thoughtful use of color touch the soul. Abstraction that invites connection.

Norti Kowalski also uses abstraction and the magic of color, to explore emotions and stories. She paints, uses photographic elements and digital techniques. She brings them together in visual images.

Neely Schaap and Moniek van der Kroef show spatial work. Schaap is an imaginative multimedia artist. An explorer who connects materials in a surprising way. She dares to go off the beaten track. Van der Kroef makes poetic small and larger compositions in clay, picturesque thanks to the glazes she uses. Spatially sketched forms that take on new meaning.

Ariane James often uses infrared in her photography, which makes landscapes discolor, become magical. She incorporates experiences and self-portraits into those landscapes.

MEANWHILE shows how form, color and meaning can enrich you.
